JUST A FEW OF THE THINGS YOU HAVE MISSED ALREADY
Live Music Event - Friday January 9th/10th 2009
HAKUNA MATATA
(A Blackpool/Leeds Collective Collaboration) who entertained us and themselves for 2 days with their version of a pre Glastonbury type mini-fest. Dan Audio who i'd heard a lot about failed to turn up for whatever reason, and although it wasn't packed in numbers (compared to when British Sea Power and the Arctic Monkeys turned up)it was a nice chilled out atmosphere. One of the most pro active people during the fest was a 12 year old girl Scarlet who sang a few songs and also organised games and rallying people together the next day. Troubadour were one of the bands who excelled during the festival with their blend of new folk and again we look forward to them darkening our doors again. We must give a big thanks to the Organiser Andy from Blackpool who not only put loads of hard work into all the bands and Dj-ing, but stayed on an extra day and painted out the lobby in our kitchen (Alright it wasn't exactly trade standard, more like Bodgett and Scarper, but good on the little mite).

Car Rally - Sunday January 4th 2009
RAID TAN HILL
This is one of the major events in the Citroen 2CV calendar and always took place on the first Sunday of the New Year. It was run by “Les Hiboux” (The Owls) who are the Leeds group of the Deux Chevaux Club of Great Britain, better known as 2CVGB. It took the form of a convoy of upwards of 100 2CVs and derivatives through some of the most spectacular scenery in the Yorkshire Dales National Park and finishes at Great Britain's highest pub, the TAN HILL INN. The starting point is the Lawnswood Arms which is situated on the A660 Leeds / Otley road aprox 2 miles past the junction with the A6120 Leeds ring road. The pub opens up at 8.30 a.m. for tea, coffee and bacon and sausage butties. All the vehicles leave in convoy at 10 a.m. There's a twenty minute break at Hawes for hot mulled wine and the convoy should reach the Tan Hill Inn at aprox 1.30 p.m. At Tan Hill the participants had exclusive use of the large heated barn at the rear of the pub, food was available all day and there was some 2CV films shown on the large screen. There were free stickers, certificates and raffle tickets for each 2CV driver who completed the route from Leeds to Tan Hill and there was be a special prize for the furthest travelled and the oldest car. The presentations and prize giving took place at approx 3.30 p.m. and then everybody went home. It’s a long way to go for lunch.... but very well worth it! January 3rd 2009
The very next day it was the turn of Les Hiboux which is the Leeds branch of the Citreon 2cv Club of Great Britain descended upon Tan Hill after having set off at 10am from the Lawnwood Arms in Leeds. The 103 registered cars this year wound through Otley and Sowerby Bridge and made their way up to Reeth (Having left West Yorkshire or "Riding" as was originolly called to enter North Yorkshire/Riding). At Reeth they were given mulled wine, and it was from there, in what were terrible conditions, that they eventually hobbled up to Tan Hill. This was no mean feat, as our barman Alan has pulled umpteen travellers out of ditches this winter including one of the kitchen staff Adrian. The club led by Brian Senior turned up about 1pm and all piled in the barn to eat, and then stayed the rest of the night to have a hearty drink (some more hearty than others). A young couple turned up in the evening having curtailed their Scottish holiday to come down and join in the singing, even more impressive was the fact that their trio managed to kip outside in their campervan in what can be described as very cold conditions.

January 2nd
Various members of "Barney"(Barnard Castle) Rugby Club turned up for a surprise party, they stayed the night, indulged in some very odd drinking games and left in the morning in the freezing snow. What a great set of lads and lasses, and we wish em all the best for the rest of the season.

NAKED WALKERS SEEK REFUGE 'UP THE HILL' "It would have been rude to just walk past!" So in they came for a drink and to warm the parts that beer cannot reach in front of the fire! We took pity on their plight and offered them a room for the night. They were very glad to accept our hospitality and hung up their boots for the night (that's the unpacking sorted) NO....You don't get a free room every night by walking into the bar naked. Good looking women could give it a try though!
