EVENTS AND RALLIES AT THE TAN HILL INN IN SWALEDALE
AND THE YORKSHIRE DALES NATIONAL PARK
EVENTS AND RALLIES
Tan Hill is possibly the Car Rally and Bike Ride-Out capital of the North. With an event almost every week of the year and almost every day in the summer. If you would like to organise a rally to Tan Hill, please e-mail Tracy to let us know. We can allocate parking space, arrange special menus and even set aside the barn for your club to get together in.Tan Hill Open Swaledale Sheep Show
The Tan Hill Open Swaledale Sheep Show returned for it's 52nd year in 2005. The show is now back in full swing after the recent events of Foot & Mouth. Due to the highly infectious nature of the virus, livestock movement restrictions forced the cancellation of the 2001 and 2003 shows even though the last case was reported eight months previously. Still taking no chances, a disinfection strip is laid across the entrance to the pens and the show area is penned off 6 weeks prior to the show..
Tan Hill Music Festival Weekend
This year saw the festival move to it's new home, the 'Barn'. A variety of live music groups and solo artists performed to a pact house in both the Barn and the Bar. The festival for 2006 will be moving to August to ensure better weather and accommodate more campers at the event. With music from the 60's, 70's, 80's, Folk, Acoustic Rock, Western and impromptu sing-a-longs and jamming sessions, there's sure to be something to suit all musical tastes in 2006. Check the diary page for details of next years event
Les Hiboux Citroën 2CV Raid on Tan Hill
Another highlight in the Tan Hill calendar is the annual 'Raid Tan Hill' by the Les Hiboux Citroën 2CV Owners' Club of Leeds. It always takes place on the first Sunday of every New Year (except when New Year's Day falls on a Saturday or Sunday then the event takes place the following Sunday). It started in 1989 as a new year run for a few owners from Leeds but now attracts enthusiasts from all over Great Britain. The 2CV established itself in the 1950's as a favourite for what the French call 'Raids' which mean expeditions or long distance runs.
The Beamish Rally
An annual event taking in the Northern Yorkshire Dales and Tan Hill, the Beamish Rally is a day-long circular tour by vintage cars and motorcycles starting and finishing at the Open Air Museum at Beamish in County Durham. It is a safety and reliability trial over 150 miles and some of it is on unmetalled road. Vehicles over 50 years old, this time pre-dating 1953 were eligible to tape part and this star attraction was a 1934 charabanc, an early type of motorised omnibus. The vehicles below took part in the 2003 Rally and included vintage motorcycles and military vehicles as well as several Austin Sevens and some American vehicles.

M2 Mini Run to Tan Hill Inn
Over 60 'new generation' BMW Mini's ascend on Tan Hill for their annual rally. Luckily, because of their size there's plenty of room to fit them all in! Plenty of customized work and special paint jobs can be viewed throughout the day.
